Office of the Second Auditor letter to Alexander Garrett, [manuscript] 1827 Apr 7.

The Second Auditor, J. Brown, Jr., writes in response to Garrett's letter of March 30, 1827. Garrett requested the directors of the Literary Fund to fund a loan to the University of Virginia that was authorized by "the last legislature." Brown writes that there is "only a very small balance in hand in the treasury" and thus the Literary Fund cannot authorize the loan.
